City of Poway Flood Control Detention Basins

D-Max provided design assistance to the City of Poway for retrofitting flood control detention basins to be used as regional treatment control BMPs for SUSMP compliance.

Our study included a hydraulic/hydrology study of the detention basins and associated drainage areas to assess the feasibility of using them as regional BMPs.  Between 2004 and 2012, we have taken wet weather composite samples of runoff entering the detention basins, as well as outflow samples after 48-72 hours of detention.  The monitoring results were used in a study to demonstrate the effectiveness of the retrofitted detention basins as regional storm water BMPs.  Based on the results of the study, a paper was prepared and presented at the annual StormCon conference.
